New Delhi, Oct. 17 -- Two garage workers were allegedly assaulted in Baruipur after the garage management refused to pay a hefty amount as Durga Puja donation to a local puja committee.
According to the workers, Puja committee members visited the garage the previous day and demanded Rs 15,000. The management offered Rs 1,000, but the organisers allegedly rejected it, insisting on the full amount and threatening the management when it refused. Workers Madhu Mondal and Pintu Chowdhury alleged that a group later entered the garage and assaulted them. CCTV cameras reportedly captured the incident.
The injured workers lodged a complaint at Baruipur P.S. Police have started an investigation and are examining the CCTV footage to identify those involved. Police are also questioning the injured workers as part of the investigation. The allegations come amid the state government's stated opposition to extortion and coercive collection of Puja donations.
