
Kolkata, Sept. 30 -- The state government has strengthened the anti-dengue drive in those pockets which have recently reported dengue cases. About 12 dengue hotspots have been identified across the state where the maximum number of dengue cases were found.
School Education Department has asked all the schools to carry out a dengue awareness drive. All the District Inspectors of Schools have been urged to make sure that schools conduct an anti-dengue campaign. The state government has already approved Rs 1.2 crore for a dengue-related campaign. Sources said around 7,320 cases have been reported from across the state this year, of which around 2,600 cases were reported in the past two weeks.
According to sources, the highest number of cases have been reported from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) areas. Most of the affected cases were detected in wards ~ 2, 5, 16, 77, 117. Apart from Kolkata, districts like Murshidabad and Nadia have also reported dengue cases, sources stated. It was learnt that 103 dengue cases have been reported from Raghunathgunj II block, 51 from Nowda block and 32 in Lalgola in Murshidabad. In Nadia's Tehatta I block, 74 people have been affected.
In the wake of a recent rise in dengue cases, a meeting on stock-taking and dengue-control measures was held at Nabanna on Monday. It was attended by the chief secretary and representatives from 16 departments, including health, civic bodies and police.
Sources also said that 44 people have been affected with dengue in Howrah Municipal Corporation areas. Several wards under Howrah civic body including 15, 21, 24 have been under scanner. About 38 dengue cases have been reported from Hooghly's Polba block. South 24-Parganas' Bhangar I and Bhangar II have also been affected as more than 68 people have been affected. In Asansol civic body area, around 32 cases have been reported.
