Kolkata, Oct. 14 -- Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul on Wednesday said that outstanding property tax in Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) areas stands at Rs 200 crore, out of which only Rs 28 lakh has been earned.

The minister, during a Press conference in Asansol, said that camps will be organised after Puja in all boroughs under AMC where 100 per cent of accumulated interest and fines on due property tax would be waived to the defaulted property owners. The minister said that people from Assembly seats -

Asansol South, Asansol North, Kulti, Jamuria, Raniganj falling under AMC, have defaulted in paying the taxes. The minister also pointed out that 10 per cent will also be waived on the principal amount as well if the property owners pay the dues within March 31 next year.

At a time when the civic polls are expected to happen in December this year, the Suvendu Adhhikari government has come up with property tax waiver schemes for six municipal corporations across the state ~ of Howrah, Bidhannagar, Chandernagore, Durgapur, Asansol, and Siliguri by allowing taxpayers to clear unpaid property tax bills issued on or before March 31, 2026. After getting approval of the state Cabinet, the Urban Development & Municipal Affairs (UD&MA) department has introduced the incentive scheme 2026 for these six municipal corporations.

According to senior government officials, the move would lead to enhanced revenue generation in the civic bodies to a great extent through recovery of arrears.

This scheme will help property tax defaulters clear pending dues with up to 100 per cent waiver on accumulated interest and penalties on long-pending arrears.
