India, July 22 -- National Award-winning singer Arijit Singh has joined the growing list of public figures criticising the police action against students during Monday's 'Chalo Sansad' march at Delhi's Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG controversy and alleged corruption in the education system. The protest, organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), turned violent after clashes broke out between demonstrators and the Delhi Police. Police allegedly used a lathi-charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd, with several students reportedly injured. Reacting to the incident, Arijit posted on social media, "Yaar ab to students ko maar rahe hain yahaan aap log. aren't you ashamed!!??"
In a follow-up post, he wrote, "Hello Neta, Mantri!! kya chal raha hai bhai!! apne aapko bhagwan samajh liya hai kya?" He also warned, "Har cheez Yaad rakkha jayega! Har har Mahadev! Yaad rakhna. The Only Constant Is Change." Arijit's remarks came after several film personalities, including Anurag Kashyap, Sonakshi Sinha, Vijay Varma and Shabana Azmi, criticised the police response to the protest. This is not the first time the singer has commented on a public issue. In 2024, he composed and performed a Bengali song seeking justice for the RG Kar rape victim in Kolkata, amid allegations of police inaction and concerns over women's safety.
