Malda, July 15 -- Allegations of financial fraud under the Annapurna welfare scheme and subsequent assault have triggered tension in Malda. A CSP (Customer Service Point) employee has been accused of fraudulently withdrawing a beneficiary's scheme money and later assaulting her when she protested. The incident took place in Bheba under the Chanchal Police Station.
The injured beneficiary, Marjina Bibi, is currently undergoing treatment at Chanchal Super Speciality Hospital. Her family has lodged a written complaint against the accused CSP employee, Ranu Chowdhury, demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged fraud and assault.
According to Marjina Bibi, she received a message stating that Rs 3,000 under the Annapurna scheme had been credited to her bank account.
However, when she visited the local CSP to withdraw the amount, she was allegedly told that no money had been deposited. Suspicious, she later obtained her bank statement, which reportedly showed that the amount had already been withdrawn using biometric authentication.
"I never withdrew the money. When I questioned how it had been withdrawn, I was assaulted on the road," Marjina alleged.
Her family claimed the beneficiary was beaten after confronting the CSP employee over the missing funds. The incident has sparked concern among residents regarding the security of welfare payments and biometric banking services.
However, the accused, Ranu Chowdhury, denied the allegations of assault. Mpost
