India, Aug. 5 -- The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign currency worth around Rs 30 lakh out of the country and handed over the passenger to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for further legal action on Tuesday. According to the CISF, the passenger had boarded a domestic flight from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport here and was travelling to Bangkok via Delhi. During the security screening at the Security Hold Area (SHA), CISF personnel noticed suspicious behaviour and escorted the passenger to the Intensive Checking Room for a detailed examination. During the search, officials recovered USD 31,500 (approximately Rs 30 lakh) concealed in the passenger's undergarment. He was subsequently handed over to the DRI for initiating appropriate legal proceedings for allegedly violating provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The CISF said the successful interception reflected the force's high level of vigilance and effective security screening at the airport. The force reiterated its commitment to maintaining stringent security standards and said it would continue to strengthen surveillance and screening measures to prevent illegal activities at airports.
