Alipurduar, Aug. 25 -- Samuktala police have arrested two youths for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old tribal girl after finding her alone at home on Sunday night.
According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Tursa Marandi and Bikram Kisku, allegedly entered the house and sexually assaulted the girl at around 11pm. The girl's father, a migrant worker, is currently staying outside the state for work, while her mother is reportedly mentally unwell and was unaware of the alleged incident.
The survivor reportedly disclosed the incident to her aunt the following day. The aunt subsequently took her to Samuktala Police Station and lodged a written complaint against the two youths.
Acting on the complaint, police initiated an investigation and arrested both accused on Tuesday. A case has been registered against them under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police later admitted the survivor to a government hospital in the district for a medical examination. Her statement is expected to be recorded before a magistrate once she is medically fit.
On Tuesday, the two accused were produced before the Alipurduar District Court.
The court remanded them to five days in judicial custody.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
