Lucknow, Sept. 17 -- Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday criticised the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the condition of expressways, alleging that infrastructure projects begin deteriorating even before their construction is fully completed.
Addressing a press conference at the SP headquarters here, Yadav said the Bundelkhand Expressway, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was still undergoing maintenance.
"Under the BJP government, construction work on a project gets completed later, but it starts falling apart first," he said.
Yadav also showed reporters a video of damaged portions of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway and questioned the quality of infrastructure being built by the government. He alleged that the interests of contractors and industrialists were being prioritised.
Comparing the BJP government's projects with those built during the previous SP regime, Yadav cited the Gomti Riverfront and Agra-Lucknow Expressway, claiming they were constructed to higher standards.
He also criticised government policies on digital payments, describing UPI as a "scheme to extract money" and alleging that such measures benefited industrialists at the expense of traders.
Yadav further questioned the state government's claim of planting 200 crore trees and saplings. He said the previous SP government had planted around 1.34 lakh trees across 1,000 acres and demanded details of the land where the claimed 200 crore saplings had been planted.
