Bhopal, July 5 -- The Adani Group will invest Rs 2,500 crore over the next three years to establish an integrated missile manufacturing complex in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district, creating 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and developing South Asia's largest private-sector missile ecosystem, Jeet Adani, Director at Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), said on Sunday.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and other dignitaries, Adani said the facility would bring the production of raw materials and mission-ready missiles under one roof, marking a first for the private sector.
The upcoming complex being set up by Adani Defence & Aerospace will manufacture medium- to long-range missile systems while also producing composite propellants, TNT and explosive-grade materials, helping strengthen India's indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports.
Adani said the project is part of the group's broader commitment to support the Centre's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by promoting indigenisation in the defence and aerospace sector in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Armed Forces.
He said the Shivpuri facility builds on the group's defence manufacturing base in Gwalior, where it manufactures light machine guns, assault rifles and carbines.
According to him, the light machine gun programme has already delivered 2,000 units to the Armed Forces, 11 months ahead of schedule.
The Shivpuri project is expected to attract more than 50 MSMEs into a specialised defence supply chain, with Gwalior and Shivpuri together emerging as major defence manufacturing hubs in the state.
Highlighting the group's broader investments in Madhya Pradesh, Adani said Chairman Gautam Adani had committed Rs 1,10,000 crore at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal last year across hydro pumped storage, cement, mining, smart meters and thermal energy projects. These investments are expected to generate around 1,20,000 jobs by 2030.
He added that the group has already invested over Rs 4,000 crore in the Ametha and Kymor plants in Katni district, supplies 1,200 MW of power to Madhya Pradesh, and is preparing an additional 5,600 MW of capacity.
It has also commissioned wind energy projects in Lahori, Dhar, Ratlam and Ujjain and recently broke ground for a Rs 1,060 crore cement plant in Guna.
