Kolkata, Aug. 27 -- Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife, Protiva Mukherjee, are among those stranded in Nepal after devastating flash floods in the Bhotekoshi River swept through villages in Rasuwa, a district bordering China's Tibet region, on Wednesday.
The 'Bhooter Bhabishyat' actor travelled to Nepal with his wife on August 20 to shoot for a Bangladeshi film. Bengali actor Rajatava Dutta had also travelled to Nepal for the same film but returned to Kolkata a few days ago. Kharaj, who was scheduled to return early this week, got stranded after the weather turned inclement.
On Wednesday, Nepal was hit by widespread destruction caused by major flash floods, leaving the actor and his wife stranded. However, he is currently in Pokhara, nearly 230 km from Rasuwa district.
Speaking to Millennium Post, the actor's son, Bihu, said his parents are safe and in Pokhara.
"I am in touch with them over the phone. Since the weather turned inclement and then the flash floods hit, all modes of transport have been disrupted. Flights have also been disrupted. So, they are planning to travel towards Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and take a flight from there to Kolkata on Friday," he said.
Bihu also said his parents were scheduled to return on August 23, but could not do so as the shoot was disrupted.
