Kolkata, Oct. 11 -- As the countdown to Durga Puja, the biggest festival of Bengal, gathers momentum, Acropolis Mall is all set to usher in the festivities with a celebration of greenery all around. The mall is adorned with an array of green plants of different species, with sustainability emerging as the key theme that runs as a leitmotif throughout this year's decor.
The central atrium of the mall has been transformed into a mesmerising green sanctuary, where the idols of Goddess Durga and her family are nestled amidst lush foliage, cascading roots and a canopy of greenery.
Traditional terracotta pots, earthen structures and an assortment of potted plants lend a rustic charm to the decorations, evoking the essence of Bengal's rural landscape. The decor celebrates the harmonious coexistence of tradition and nature, conveying a message that festivities can also become an occasion to promote environmental consciousness.
Commenting on the occasion, Subhadip Basu, Corporate General Manager, Retail & Hospitality, Merlin Group, said: "Green building features play a crucial role in making commercial establishments more sustainable. At Acropolis Mall, we have always emphasised green building practices by integrating energy-efficient systems, water conservation measures, responsible waste management and greenery into our operations, thus contributing towards a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
"This year, we have extended our sustainability philosophy to our Durga Puja celebrations. Maa Durga is surrounded by a green ecosystem, symbolising the inseparable bond between nature and life. Through this Green Puja, we want to convey a message, particularly to the younger generation, that protecting greenery and preserving our environment are responsibilities we all share."
