India, July 12 -- The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will organise a student rally and convention in Kolkata on July 14 to mark its 78th Foundation Day and the 150th anniversary of the composition of Vande Mataram. ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Singh Solanki will address the event. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, ABVP leaders said around 10,000 students from colleges and universities across Kolkata are expected to participate. The main rally will begin from Shyambazar Five-Point Crossing and proceed to College Street, where it will be joined by two other processions before culminating in a convention.

ABVP Central Working Committee member Shubhabrata Adhikary said the programme was also being organised in connection with National Students' Day, observed by the organisation on July 9, and aimed to strengthen nationalist consciousness among students and reinforce the demand for a healthy, academic and student-friendly environment across college campuses. State Secretary Neelkantha Bhattacharya said the organisation enrolled more than 44,000 new members in West Bengal on the first day of its membership drive. He said ABVP was committed to achieving its target of enrolling one million members in the state. The press conference was attended by Adhikary, Bhattacharya, State Media Convener Ananta Barui and Kolkata Mahanagar Secretary Swadhin Haldar.
