Kolkata, Oct. 12 -- MAITC MP Abhishek Banerjee has sought at least 48 hours' notice before being summoned for questioning in connection with the Camac Street office incident, after skipping a police summons for Monday. Police subsequently visited his Kalighat residence and reportedly issued a fresh notice asking him to appear on Wednesday.

According to sources, Abhishek emailed Shakespeare Sarani Police Station, stating that he could not attend questioning at such short notice because he is a Member of Parliament with several pre-scheduled engagements.

In his email, he reportedly described the earlier summons, served on October 11 for questioning the following day, as "unilateral, arbitrary and unreasonable" due to the limited time provided. He requested the police to issue a fresh notice allowing him at least 48 hours to make the necessary arrangements.

The MP, however, conveyed his willingness to cooperate fully with the investigation, provided he was given adequate notice before appearing at the police station.

Police had earlier attempted to summon Abhishek last Wednesday but returned as he was in Delhi. After he returned to Kolkata on Saturday, officers visited his Kalighat residence again on Sunday and served the notice.

The questioning relates to the August 27 incident at Abhishek's Camac Street office, where a confrontation reportedly broke out between his supporters and police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials during the removal of a billboard bearing the Trinamool Congress name.
