New Delhi, Sept. 27 -- The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday held a protest in west Delhi's Tilak Nagar, demanding registration of an FIR against Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Verma over an alleged slapping incident.
AAP Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj, who led the protest, was detained by Delhi Police along with several party workers. Bharadwaj said the party was heading to the DCP office as no FIR had been registered despite the incident allegedly taking place in front of police personnel and being captured on video. He accused the police of "collusion" and said such "hooliganism" would not be tolerated.
AAP workers and local MLA Jarnail Singh raised slogans demanding Singh's resignation and registration of an FIR.
The political row erupted after a video surfaced purportedly showing the PWD minister slapping a man during a road inspection in Tilak Nagar. The man, Saheb Singh, later filed a complaint against the minister.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also criticised the BJP, saying the incident reflected a government that no longer feared voters. He linked the episode to his allegations of "vote theft", saying it resulted in "the arrogance that follows".
Singh rejected Gandhi's remarks, saying he "knew nothing" about the matter.
