Amravati, June 29 -- Five members of a family were killed after their car crashed into a stationary truck on the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Amravati district, police said on Monday. The accident occurred near the Dhamangaon railway boundary around 12.30 pm on Sunday, an official said.
He said the victims were travelling to Akola for a function when their car rammed into a truck parked near the railway boundary. The deceased were identified as Bhaskar Jivne, his son Ramesh, who was driving the car, wife Lata, daughter-in-law Aarti and 10-year-old granddaughter Trisha, all residents of Chandrapur, the official said. Police and highway safety teams and rescue personnel rushed to the spot and sent the bodies to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital for post-mortem, he said. While the exact cause of the crash is yet to be ascertained, a preliminary probe indicated that the driver may have dozed off at the wheel, the official said.
