New Delhi, Oct. 28 -- Delhi Police will deploy nearly 3,000 personnel and install around 150 high-definition and AI-enabled CCTV cameras around Ramlila Maidan ahead of the Congress-led Opposition bloc's rally on November 1, with strict barricading planned to prevent protesters from moving towards restricted areas, officials said.
Police have prepared a contingency plan for the possible evacuation of senior political leaders, including Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, in case of an emergency. One gate at the venue has been earmarked for their safe exit.
The rally, part of the Opposition's campaign against alleged voter deletions and irregularities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, is expected to draw between 40,000 and 50,000 people from Delhi and other states, according to police estimates. Organisers have claimed a much larger turnout.
A temporary police control room will monitor live CCTV feeds and coordinate security arrangements. Many personnel will also wear body cameras to record events on the ground.
The nearly 12-acre venue, which can accommodate around 50,000 people, will be divided into eight regions and 14 zones, each supervised by senior police officers.
