
New Delhi, July 9 -- A 26-year-old man allegedly drowned while swimming at the pool of Bholi Ram Public School in Delhi's Najafgarh area on Wednesday evening, police said.
The deceased was identified as Rahul Rai, also known as Rahul Roy, a resident of Jharoda village. Police said he had gone to the swimming pool with his friends - Suraj Singh, Tarun Kumar and Bhavishya - when the incident occurred at around 5.30 pm.
A PCR call alerted Najafgarh police after Rahul was taken unconscious to Tarak Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police said Rahul worked with a private company, Interval India, in the packaging of cardboard cartons.
The body has been shifted to Rao Tula Ram Memorial (RTRM) Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have inspected the swimming pool and the surrounding area, while statements of Rahul's friends and other witnesses are being recorded to reconstruct the sequence of events.
A case has been registered under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigators are also examining the safety arrangements at the swimming pool to determine whether any negligence contributed to the incident. The post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police said no foul play has been established so far.
