Ghaziabad, Oct. 19 -- An 11-year-old girl was crushed to death and her 18-year-old brother sustained minor injuries after their scooty was hit by a tractor-trolley in Niti Khand, behind Jaipuria Mall in Indirapuram, on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Divya, a resident of Ahinsa Khand 2, while her brother was identified as Pratham. The siblings were reportedly on their way to a local market for shopping when the accident occurred around 12.30 pm.

ACP Indirapuram Suryabali Maurya said a passerby alerted the police helpline, following which a team reached the spot and rushed the siblings to a nearby hospital. Divya succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while Pratham was stable.

"Initial investigation revealed that the brother-sister duo were travelling on a scooty driven by Pratham. He attempted to overtake a fast-moving tractor-trolley when it hit their vehicle from the side. Both fell onto the road, but the girl came under the tractor's wheel and suffered fatal injuries," the ACP said.

The tractor driver fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind. Police have formed a team to trace him and are examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to establish the sequence of events.

The family refused to allow a postmortem examination and said they would submit a written complaint, following which the police would register an FIR.

In a similar incident on September 14, a 35-year-old teacher, Amrita Gupta, was crushed to death by a truck near Rotary Golchakkar in Raj Nagar Extension. She was riding a scooty when the truck struck her from the side. Gupta, who worked at Little Flower School in Delhi's Durgapuri, died on the spot.
