Kolkata, May 15 -- Alleging large-scale electoral irregularities while simultaneously calling for organisational rebuilding, Mamata Banerjee on Friday delivered a strong political message to party leaders, defeated candidates and elected representatives at a crucial closed-door meeting at Kalighat, making it clear that the Trinamool Congress would launch its fightback immediately after its shock Assembly election defeat.
The meeting was attended by TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee and several senior leaders, including Shashi Panja, Chandrima Bhattacharya and others.
During the meeting at her Kalighat residence in Kolkata, Banerjee reportedly told party leaders that they had not truly lost the election, claiming that "votes were stolen" and that the mandate had been "looted."
She asserted that the party would take "revenge through democratic means," urging workers and leaders not to lose morale despite the setback.
At the same time, Banerjee shifted the focus to rebuilding the organisation from the grassroots. She instructed district leaders, defeated candidates and organisational heads to return to their constituencies, strengthen booth-level structures and reconnect with party workers across the state.
Stressing discipline within the organisation, she reportedly conveyed a stern message that those unwilling to work for the party were free to leave, and the party would fight back with the remaining members. Sources within the party said Banerjee also expressed concern over reports of post-poll intimidation and asked senior leaders to stand beside grassroots workers in districts where party supporters were allegedly facing pressure.
