Nagercoil, April 15 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi turned heads with a high-energy roadshow in Nagercoil on Wednesday, drawing enthusiastic crowds and amplifying the NDA's campaign momentum ahead of the April 23 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Confident of an electoral breakthrough, Modi declared that the AIADMK-led alliance is "set to win for sure," while predicting a decisive defeat for the ruling DMK.
The nearly 1.5-kilometre roadshow, stretching from Veppamoodu junction to Vadasery, lasted close to an hour and witnessed a vibrant turnout. Supporters lined both sides of the route, waving party flags and showering flower petals as Modi, standing atop a specially decorated vehicle, greeted them with folded hands and waves. The atmosphere was charged with chants of "Modi, Modi" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai," reflecting the enthusiasm among the crowd.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by key alliance leaders, including AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran, former state chief K Annamalai, and senior leader Pon Radhakrishnan. Their joint appearance signalled unity within the alliance as they seek to challenge the DMK's hold on power.
Adding a cultural touch to the event, classical dance performances were staged along the route, showcasing Tamil Nadu's rich artistic traditions. Modi also paused during the roadshow to pay floral tributes to prominent leaders, including BR Ambedkar and Dravidian icons CN Annadurai and MG Ramachandran, the latter being the founder of the AIADMK.
Following the roadshow, Modi briefly interacted with alliance leaders and candidates from the region, reiterating his confidence in the NDA's prospects. "NDA is winning for sure, DMK is losing for sure. We must vote for a better Tamil Nadu, a developed Tamil Nadu," he said, emphasising the alliance's development agenda.
