Lucknow, Sept. 10 -- The Uttar Pradesh government has set a target of bringing three crore women into self-help groups and turning one crore of them into 'Lakhpati Didis' by creating better livelihood opportunities and increasing their incomes.
Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya reviewed the work of technical support agencies, banks, milk producer companies and HCL Foundation under the Uttar Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission at Yojana Bhawan on Wednesday.
Maurya said over one crore women would receive Rs 20,000 as the first instalment under the Uttar Pradesh Women Entrepreneur Scheme, with the government bearing the loan interest. A second instalment of Rs 30,000 would also be provided.
He directed banks to ensure easy access to loans for eligible women and adopt a supportive approach towards poor beneficiaries.
Maurya asked officials to formulate a scheme for providing loans to women to purchase cows and buffaloes. He also suggested making quality e-rickshaws costing up to Rs 2 lakh available to women members of self-help groups.
Stressing technology-driven livelihood opportunities, he directed officials to prepare a plan to provide at least one drone to every cluster-level federation of self-help groups.
