Kolkata, Sept. 21 -- No school has been identified for conversion under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and the West Bengal government has taken no decision to implement it, School Education Minister Dipak Barman said on Monday.
The clarification came after a September 16 communication from the School Education Department directed district-level committees to physically verify zero-enrolment schools and assess the possibility of their revival or alternative utilisation of their infrastructure, including under the PPP mode.
Barman said the exercise concerns 933 schools where no student has been enrolled for periods ranging from five to nearly 20 years. Many of these schools have buildings, land and playgrounds that are lying unused and deteriorating.
"Not a single school has been selected for the PPP model, nor has any decision been taken that these schools will be converted under the PPP model," he said.
