Kolkata, Aug. 4 -- The STF has found that arrested Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militant Hamim Mondal had conducted reconnaissance of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's Chinar Park residence and convoy routes.
During the interrogation, Hamim revealed that he was tasked with mapping out the Chief Minister's movements.
However, his attempt to photograph or film the Chinar Park residence was thwarted by the extensive network of CCTV cameras around the VVIP property. According to sources, his Pakistan-based handlers had instructed him to avoid being captured on surveillance cameras, forcing him to abandon the plan. Investigators said Mondal instead used app-based cabs to discreetly monitor the CM's convoy routes and travel patterns. They also suspect he attended several public events involving the CM to identify potential security vulnerabilities.
STF also suspect that the JeM militant might have made a reccee of the state headquarters Nabanna as well. However, it is yet to be found out whether he had been to Nabanna or not.
Sources informed that during the probe, cops seized several digital devices which are being examined.
The STF officials had informed earlier that Hamim is a key operative in the JeM linked Shahzad Bhatti gang. He, along with his
associates, Arpita Sarkar and Aditya Singh, were also reportedly planning a separate sabotage operation at the NEET protest site at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
