New Delhi, Aug. 29 -- The Coastal and western districts of West Bengal are likely to receive heavy rainfall till August 31 under the influence of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal, the IMD said on Saturday.
The weather system is expected to move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, bringing heavy rain to districts, including Kolkata, North and South 24-Parganas, Hooghly, Howrah, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia.
The IMD advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Bengal and Odisha coasts and north Bay of Bengal till Monday as squally winds of up to 45kmph are likely to make conditions rough.
Haldia recorded the state's highest 24-hour rainfall at 62mm, while Digha received 37mm and Darjeeling 51mm during the period.
