India, May 25 -- New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday led a plantation drive at the NDMC Housing Complex, Amrit Kal Niwas in Jor Bagh, as part of the civic body's ongoing "#EkPedMaaKeNaam_OnSunday" campaign aimed at promoting environmental awareness and public participation. The programme marked the 25th consecutive Sunday plantation drive organised by the NDMC under the initiative inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for environmental conservation through community involvement. Residents' Welfare Associations (RWAs), local residents, NDMC officials and staff members participated in the drive and planted saplings in the name of their mothers, symbolising a link between emotional values and environmental responsibility. He added that the NDMC had continued the initiative every Sunday without interruption and had also organised plantation activities with universities, embassies and other institutions across New Delhi. He said the civic body had prepared a year-long "Green Calendar" under which plantation drives would continue every Sunday in different parts of the NDMC area. Departments including horticulture, sanitation, civil engineering, roads, drainage and water supply would jointly ensure the maintenance and growth of the saplings, he added. Chahal also announced that a special plantation event would be organised on World Environment Day on June 5 to further strengthen awareness about environmental protection and public participation. Senior NDMC officials and a large number of residents attended the programme.
