New Delhi, Oct. 22 -- The Ministry of Home Affairs is positively considering a proposal to promote paramilitary personnel excelling at national and international sporting events to gazetted ranks, CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan said.
Responding to a Millennium Post query on whether personnel winning international medals would be rewarded with promotions, Ranjan said the matter had been discussed with the ministry.
"We have given some good suggestions to the Home Ministry on this issue. Ministry is positively considering the proposal for promotion of outstanding sportspersons to gazetted posts and a decision is expected soon," he said.
Five CISF personnel represented India at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in 2026. Head Constable Ritu won gold as a member of the Indian women's kabaddi team.
The force also improved its performance at the five All India Police Sports Clusters, increasing its medal tally from 120 in 2025-26 to 169 in 2026-27. The haul comprised 64 gold, 46 silver and 59 bronze medals. The number of trophies won doubled from 10 to 20.
The CISF has introduced incentives, including cash awards, special increments, sports kits and dietary assistance. Eighteen sportspersons received special increments in 2026 for their national and international achievements.
