New Delhi, Oct. 3 -- Beliaghata MLA Kunal Ghosh on Saturday tore into Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari over his remarks on former CM Mamata Banerjee's leg injury during the 2021 Assembly campaign.
Defending Banerjee's Nandigram injury, Ghosh said a bandage or medical wrap does not necessarily indicate a fracture, as "severe soft-tissue injuries or swelling can also require one". He was reacting to Adhikari's claim that Banerjee had faked the injury.
Adhikari had cited a 2021 medical report from the Bangur Institute of Neurosciences, claiming there was "no evidence of fracture or dislocation". He alleged that Banerjee's injury narrative was "false propaganda" aimed at securing electoral sympathy and announced a formal CID probe.
Questioning Adhikari's logic, Ghosh said: "Who said that a bandage is needed only when something is broken?" He described the move as "cheap politics" and shared photographs of Banerjee's injured leg from 2021, calling the political focus on the old injury "unfortunate", "tasteless" and "absolute filth".
He also questioned the validity of the documents, asking whose X-ray plates or reports Adhikari was presenting to build a political narrative ahead of the bypolls.
On the Rejinagar bypoll, Ghosh claimed Mamata TMC candidate Rabiul Alam Chowdhury was receiving strong voter support. He said Chowdhury had to contest using the "player" symbol because of an Election Commission "conspiracy", alleging the BJP feared Banerjee and that police were being used to spread fear among voters.
