India, Aug. 5 -- Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday termed Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's remark on madrasa education as communal and asked whether "chanda chors" were patriotic. Maurya sparked a controversy on Tuesday when he claimed that individuals educated in madrasas "develop a terrorist-like mindset." Speaking with reporters in Lucknow on Tuesday, Maurya said, "Anyone who receives a madrasa education does not chant 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' nor sing 'Vande Mataram', and develops a terrorist-like mindset." In a post on X, Sibal said, "K P Maurya, Deputy CM (UP), said: 'Madrasa education does not foster patriotism'...'Those who receive Madrasa education, their mindset becomes like that of terrorists'. Communal statement. Warped mindset." "Are 'Chanda Chors' patriotic? This country deserves better!" the Independent Rajya Sabha MP said, slamming the BJP. The opposition has been attacking the BJP over the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
