KUCHING, Sept. 25 -- A witness who followed a hatchback believed to have been used by two men fleeing an attempted vehicle component theft helped police trace their movements and arrest one suspect here last night.

Padawan district police chief Supt Barry William said the incident occurred at about 8.40am yesterday at a workshop along Jalan Batu Kawa here.

He said the witness spotted two men allegedly attempting to steal components from a vehicle parked outside the workshop.

"A witness noticed two suspicious men trying to steal the components from a vehicle parked outside the workshop before they fled using the hatchback after being confronted.
