GEORGE TOWN, Sept. 10 -- Honorary Consul of Nepal Datuk Huan Cheng Guan has urged Malaysians to defer all non-essential travel to Nepal amid escalating unrest in the Himalayan nation.

He said the political situation remains highly volatile following the resignation of former prime minister KPSharma Oli after deadly youth-led protests.

"It is important to avoid travel to Nepal unless absolutely necessary," he said in a Facebook post today.

Huan added that his office is closely monitoring developments and will continue to provide updates to safeguard Malaysians with ties to Nepal.

The unrest, led primarily by Generation Z activists, was triggered by a sweeping, day-old ban on some 26 social media platforms.
