If police stop you in Malaysia, here's what you should know
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 10 -- It happens more often than many people realise.
Maybe you're pulled over at a roadblock. Maybe police stop you during an operation at a shopping mall or perhaps an officer approaches you on the street asking a few questions.
Or you maybe one of the rare ones who've had a knock on your door.
Do you have to answer everything? Can they search your phone? What if they ask you to follow them to the police station?
Then there's the famous line we've all heard in countless Hollywood movies:
"I want my lawyer!" Does that actually work in Malaysia?
We've all seen the scenes.
A suspect is arrested, turns to the officer and declares:
"I want my lawyer."
Questioning stops. A lawyer appears moments later.
