KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 24 -- The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) is moving to convene industry players to address alleged distribution monopolies and ensure fair competition within the local cinematic market.

Chief executive officer Datuk Azmir Saifuddin Mutalib acknowledged growing anxiety over the concentration of control in film distribution, specifically where a single entity dominates production, funding, and distribution.

"If possible, we don't want any cartel. We want fair trade and opportunities for all industry players," Azmir told reporters at the new Menara Finas headquarters in Damansara Damai.
