KUALA LUMPUR, Oct. 17 -- A classmate of 16-year-old Yap Shing Xuen, who was fatally stabbed at a school in Bandar Utama, has recounted her final moments, revealing that she had asked to go to the toilet during an examination and never returned.

The classmate, who wished to be identified only as Adam, was speaking to reporters after attending Yap's wake service at the Nirvana Center in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Adam, 15, said Yap had left their third-floor classroom to go to the girls' toilet on the ground floor.

When she did not return after about 20 minutes, the teacher went to check and spotted the knife-wielding suspect in the school's assembly compound, acting strangely.
