India, Oct. 8 -- After his big-budget, Oscar-winning outing in Oppenheimer (2023), Cillian Murphy has returned to small-budget movies which tell stories that are often overlooked. After starring in the 2024 historical drama Small Things Like These, Murphy is back with Steve, which premiered on 3 October 2025 on Netflix and marked his second collaboration with STLT director Tim Mielants.

Based on Max Porter's acclaimed 2023 novella Shy, the screen adaptation was also penned by the writer. The plot of Steve tells the story of Stanton Wood, a school for troubled teens, and its staff and students.
