New Delhi, March 13 -- The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on Wednesday announced the initiation of investigations into the acts, policies and practices of 16 economies, including India, under Section 301(b) of the Trade Act of 1974.

The probe will examine whether structural excess capacity and overproduction in manufacturing sectors are unreasonable or discriminatory and burden US commerce.

The economies covered by the investigation are China, the European Union, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Bangladesh, Mexico, Japan and India.
