Kochi, Aug. 25 -- The Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has announced a new pilot project to strengthen the fishing community in Kerala's Kuttanad region.
The initiative was unveiled by Union Minister of State George Kurian during a consultative meeting at the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi.
The project aims to revive the local economy by introducing a mix of modern and traditional aquaculture practices. These include integrated fish farming, cage fish farming, the eco-friendly "one fish one paddy" model, and biofloc fish farming.
According to the minister, the primary goal is to create better livelihood opportunities for farmers in the region.
