New Delhi, Oct. 30 -- In a major relief for taxpayers, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced an extension of key deadlines for filing income tax returns and audit reports for the Assessment Year (AY) 2025-26. The due date for furnishing the Return of Income under Section 139(1) of the Income-tax Act, 1961-originally 31st October 2025-has been extended to 10th December 2025, the CBDT stated in a notification issued on Wednesday. This extension applies to assessees covered under clause (a) of Explanation 2 to sub-section (1) of Section 139, which typically includes companies and entities required to get their accounts audited.
