New Delhi, Oct. 28 -- According to NITI Aayog, India's services sector employs nearly 30 percent of the country's workforce, or about 188 million people.

In 2023-24, the sectors generating the highest employment were trade, transport, education, travel, and professional services.

"Services employment rose to 29.7 percent in 2023-24 compared to 26.9 percent in 2011-12, with 40 million jobs created in the last six years," NITI Aayog said in its reports.

The two reports - India's Services Sector: Insights from Employment Trends and State-Level Dynamics and India's Services Sector: Insights from GVA Trends and State-Level Dynamics - were launched on Tuesday by B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog.
