New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- India's petrol consumption grew 5.05 percent year-on-year to 3.53 million tonnes in August 2025, while diesel demand held steady at 6.56 million tonnes, according to provisional data released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) on Monday.

Petrol sales increased from 3.36 million tonnes in the same month last year.

Diesel consumption, which constitutes the largest share of India's fuel basket, showed only a marginal rise compared with 6.50 million tonnes in August 2024.

Among other fuels, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) consumption expanded 4.18 percent to 2.89 million tonnes, up from 2.78 million tonnes a year earlier. In contrast, Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) demand slipped 3.57 percent to 0.71 millio...
