GST Council May Propose Single Application For Multi-State Registration, Standardised Documents
New Delhi, Oct. 6 -- The GST Council is likely to consider allowing businesses to apply for GST registration across multiple states through a single application and standardising the documents tax officers can seek from applicants.
The proposals are part of a broader plan to simplify GST registration for businesses and improve ease of doing business. India currently has more than 1.68 crore GST-registered businesses.
Under the proposed system, businesses would use a redesigned registration form with step-by-step guidance and a clear list of documents required for uploading. Information submitted for one state would be carried forward for registrations in other states, allowing businesses to file multiple applications together.
