New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- India marked a significant milestone in its semiconductor ambitions with the launch of the country's first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor, Vikram, at the Semicon India 2025 conference.
At the event, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented to Prime Minister Modi the processor developed by ISRO's Semiconductor Laboratory, along with test chips from four approved projects.
The Vikram processor is designed to withstand the extreme environmental conditions of space launch vehicles, underscoring efforts to reduce reliance on imported chips.
Vaishnaw described the launch as 'a milestone in India's semiconductor journey'.
