New Delhi, July 28 -- Coal imports by thermal power plants declined 27.4percent to 45.4 million tonnes (MT) in FY 2025-26, compared with 62.5 MT in FY 2024-25, the government informed Parliament.

The information was provided by Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

Coal imports by imported coal-based (ICB) power plants also declined 27.45percent, from 3.97 MT in April 2025 to 2.88 MT in April 2026, according to the reply.

The Minister said the government has increased the Annual Contracted Quantity (ACQ) to 100percent of the normative requirement for eligible power plants to improve domestic coal availability.
