Afghanistan, July 28 -- French football great Zinedine Zidane has been appointed head coach of France, succeeding Didier Deschamps and ushering in a new era for one of international football's most successful national teams.
The French Football Federation (FFF) is expected to officially present Zidane on Tuesday, ending years of speculation over his long-anticipated appointment. He is set to begin assembling his coaching staff in August before officially taking charge on Sept. 1, with his first competitive match expected to be against Turkey in the UEFA Nations League.
