Afghanistan, May 22 -- Zakia Ahmadi, a 31-year-old Afghan climber, has become the first Afghan woman to summit Mount Everest, according to climbing outlet Everest.Life and her family.

Reports said Ahmadi reached the world's highest peak on May 21 alongside an international climbing team that included Kristin Harila.

Her sister described the achievement as "historic," saying the climb represents courage and hope for Afghan girls and women facing severe restrictions.

Ahmadi, originally from Jaghori District, said her goal was to send a message of hope to Afghan girls. She moved to Australia with her family in 2022 after the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan.
