Afghanistan, July 1 -- Chinese President Xi Jinping has described the reunification of Taiwan with mainland China as a "historic mission" and an "unshakable commitment" of the ruling Communist Party, reaffirming Beijing's long-standing position on the self-governed island.

According to Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday, July 1, Xi made the remarks during a ceremony marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. He also stressed the party's absolute leadership over China's armed forces and said national reunification remains a core objective.
