Afghanistan, May 17 -- World Health Organization said the Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda has reached the level of a "public health emergency of international concern," warning the virus could spread further across borders.

The WHO said the outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, for which no approved vaccine or specific treatment currently exists, making the situation particularly unusual and difficult to contain.

According to Reuters, at least 80 suspected deaths, eight laboratory-confirmed cases and 246 suspected infections have been recorded in eastern Congo's Ituri province across the health zones of Bunia, Rwampara and Mongbwalu.
