Afghanistan, Aug. 5 -- A West Virginia airman received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic role in the 2021 Afghanistan evacuation, protecting crew and civilians during final flights.
In the lead-up to the fourth anniversary of the Kabul evacuation, U.S. Air Force serviceman William K. McGraw, a member of the West Virginia National Guard, has been awarded the prestigious Air Medal for his heroic role during the 2021 operation.
McGraw received the honor on Sunday, August 3, during a formal ceremony at McLaughlin Air Base. The Air Medal is awarded exclusively to individuals who demonstrate exceptional bravery or perform heroic actions during flight missions.
