Afghanistan, Aug. 14 -- A federal judge has pressed the U.S. Department of Justice to explain why parts of records related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein remain redacted or withheld from public release.
U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan raised the issue during a hearing stemming from a lawsuit filed by an independent journalist, who accused the Justice Department of improperly withholding or redacting portions of the Epstein records.
Sullivan previously ruled that some of the department's redactions and withholding of records were inconsistent with the Epstein Files Transparency Act and ordered the government to release the material or explain why it should remain withheld.
