Afghanistan, May 20 -- US forces detected at least 10 naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions amid renewed threats between Washington and Tehran.

CBS News reported Wednesday, citing US officials, that American forces have identified at least 10 naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, raising new concerns over maritime security in the Gulf.

US officials previously said the mines used by Iran in the strategic waterway were locally produced "Maham-3" and "Maham-7" models. According to the report, it remains unclear whether the newly detected mines are of the same type.
