Afghanistan, July 30 -- The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have warned that Afghans returning from Iran and Pakistan face increased risks of human trafficking, forced labour and other forms of exploitation.
In a joint statement marking World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on Thursday, July 30, the two agencies said many returnees are arriving in communities already struggling with poverty, limited access to basic services and severe economic pressures, increasing their vulnerability to exploitation.
The agencies identified women, children, internally displaced people and returnees among those particularly vulnerable to trafficking and abuse.
